The Short Version.
Brand new to all of it, and unsure whether these guides were written with you in mind? They were. Here's the beginner's route, in three steps.
- Make a munch your first step. A munch is a relaxed get-together, everyone fully dressed, usually over food or coffee, and getting to know people is the whole point. Mention that you're new — in North Carolina that tends to win you patience and a few friendly pointers, since the scene here prefers to bring newcomers in carefully.
- Get comfortable with the vocabulary. The A–Z glossary walks through consent, limits, safewords, aftercare and plenty more. Using those words fluently is how experienced people recognize someone they can trust in a scene, rather than someone they would need to keep an eye on.
- Don't rush who you choose. Search is organized around distance for a reason: the people you meet should be people you can realistically see again. Someone sincere a short drive away on I-40 or I-85 is worth more than a flawless profile you would never manage to meet.
